Meet Polly Bath – Behavior Consultant and Speaker

Date: October 10th, 2012
By: Polly Bath

Watch this video [2:22] to learn about Polly Bath’s school-changing work as a behavior consultant and speaker. The toughest behaviors – those are her specialty.

I’d like you to know a few things about me. First of all, I’m not only a consultant and speaker on difficult school behavior, I’m also a teacher – a veteran special educator – I understand what my colleagues go through on a daily basis dealing with behaviors in the classroom.

I have a long track record of helping teachers stop losing so much time on behavior so they can get back to instruction. I’d also like you to know when it comes to behavior change, I was trained by the master, the late Dr. Mike Mezzocchi.

Some of the things that I’ve worked on over the years as a behavior consultant in New England are setting up proactive programs to help children, instead of being so reactive – things like student support centers, in-school suspension programs, which I like to refer to as in-school intervention. We need children to have consequences, but we also have to teach them the skills they lack that get them into trouble in the first place.

I like to be able to teach small groups, large groups, entire districts, in fact. I want folks to know how to respond to behaviors so that they don’t escalate them.

I’ve been able to go in and do functional behavioral assessments on very difficult cases and teach my model for behavior intervention plans that teams can work with the very next day, something that results in a consistent and predictable approach.

I’ve been able to go in and restructure entire Special Ed departments so they have better use of their staff and target the needs of those children that not only have learning disabilities and other cognitive challenges, but have the behaviors that go along with them.

By the way, I’m working on a book and we’ve published some chapters on the website, so check it out. It’s at www.CristiaLesher.com. Click on Articles & Videos at the top of the home page.
