Instructional Strategies for the Paraprofessional

Paraprofessionals play an essential role in supporting students with disabilities in a wide range of learning environments. This training will look at the role of the paraprofessional supporting students in the general education setting. Participants will learn a variety of instructional strategies that enhance a student’s ability to benefit from his or her instruction. Some strategies that will be covered include effective questioning, cueing or jogging the memory, scribing, note taking, adapting study guides, test taking and fostering independence.
Target Audience: paraprofessionals

This workshop can be adapted in a number of ways depending on the target audience.  The strategies outlined above deal more with process, but could be adapted to content, such as reading or math strategies.  In addition, the training can address all grade levels or be specific to elementary and/or middle/high school audiences.
