Classroom behavior: our biggest ADHD mistake

Date: April 2nd, 2015

Polly Bath: If a kid has ADHD, often the symptom is they fail a class. But their diagnosis is attention.

“You’re failing math. So, we are going to give you more math.”

It doesn’t make any sense, the kid doesn’t need more math.

The child needs to learn how to pay attention, how to wean out distractions, how to overcome impulsivity.

Once they get those things under their belt, THEN they can do the math.

We need to remember, don’t treat the symptom. Treat the cause.
