Behavior: don’t ask, redirect

Polly Bath: When I walk through schools, I hear questions like “Why are you on the floor?”

Don’t even ask, tell them to get up!

Always say to yourself, “If I have to ask a question, then I probably could just redirect it.” Things like “Why aren’t you in your seat?” I don’t care why you’re not in your seat, get in it.

By the way, if you want to sit on your leg, if you want to sit with your feet up like this, if you want to sit with your leg behind your neck, as long as you’re still doing your work, that’s OK. That’s all right with me.

There’s no reason for us to get all hung up. If you want to stand, go to the back so you’re not blocking somebody’s view. If you’re doing what I asked you to do, I am not hung up on the way you’re sitting in the chair.
