Using Higher Order Thinking Skills to Differentiate Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment
Available as a Workshop and/or Consulting by Caroline Cohen, Ph.D.
Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are not reserved exclusively for the gifted pull-out program. They are essential components in the curriculum and instruction of every classroom, K-12, and play a powerful role in differentiation, curriculum compacting, and assessment. This training examines ways in which teachers can increase their students’ use of critical and creative thinking skills while maintaining accountability for state and national standards. Create a classroom atmosphere which supports higher levels of thinking. Explore thinking skills models such as Bloom’s Taxonomy, SCAMPER, and CPS in daily classroom use. Readily available materials will be presented which enable teachers to infuse higher orders of thinking into the learning process for all their students.
Target Audience: classroom teachers (K-12), gifted/talented teachers, special education teachers, curriculum and instruction coordinators, administrators
