Teachers Working Together to Create an Integrated Science Unit
Available as a Workshop and/or Consulting by Elaine Silva Mangiante
Through this workshop, elementary and middle school teachers of science will:
- Learn about the value of collaboration to facilitate the incorporation of Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) in unit development;
- Experience approaches to using Common Planning Time that allow teachers to plan and work efficiently and collaboratively;
- View elementary and middle school examples of science units that include integration with other subject areas;
- Evaluate the design of an existing unit for: GLE concepts and skills, level of integration, overall theme, level of student engagement;
- Identify an Essential Question for a unit that conveys “the big picture”;
- Work in grade level teams to create an integrated science unit on a given topic; and
- Discuss how this approach can be incorporated back in school.
