Social Skills and Autism (3 years – 6th grade)
Available as a Workshop and/or Consulting by John Moran, Ed.D.
In order to work effectively with a child with autism, the adult must understand the challenges the child faces every minute of their day in relating socially. Furthermore, the adult must understand what works and what does not in helping the child with autism to expand their social skills.
This workshop will include:
- Overview of social impairments experienced by children with autism;
- Peer mediated interventions to increase social interactions between children with autism and typically developing peers;
- Interventions for teaching empathy and perspective taking; and
- Strategies for improving deficits in pragmatics.
