Secondary School Personalization: Student Ownership through Personal Plans for Progress and Student-Led Conferences
Available as a Workshop and/or Consulting by Elaine Silva Mangiante
This training will introduce participants to a process that aids students in assuming ownership for their learning and future goals. The development of a Personal Plan for Progress involves a structured approach that helps students discover their aptitudes and skills in order to create a plan of action to achieve their aspirations. A Student-Led Conference provides an opportunity for students to reflect on their learning and their experiences as well as to make a commitment to their action plans for the future.
Goals: This training will assist a school team of administrators and teachers to:
- Learn the Four-Step Process for developing Student Personal Plans for Progress and Student-Led Conferences. The Four Steps for the student are:
- Step 1: Exploring who one is and what one wants;
Step 2: Building a dream one believes in;
Step 3: Planning one’s progress; and
Step 4: Taking ownership of one’s future.
- Establish a purpose and organization of Personal Plans for Progress for students;
- Experience lessons for developing "Self Explorations" and "Dream Building" with students;
- Examine tools for the student planning and goal-setting process;
- Explore teacher-friendly materials to establish Student-Led Conferences; and
- Investigate models and create mechanisms for implementing Personal Plans for Progress and Student-Led Conferences for all four years.
