Peer Coaching: Using “Resident Experts” to Extend Professional Development
Available as a Workshop and/or Consulting by Caroline Cohen, Ph.D.
Peer (or collegial) coaching is a powerful, researched-based professional development technique enabling schools to use the expertise already present on their faculty to extend in-service training. This training examines the theory and practice of peer coaching, describes a four-step coaching model, offers strategies and techniques for both the coach and the person being coached, and provides several examples of successful peer coaching programs in use in schools. Learn how to coach and be coached. Time permitting, participants will role-play both coaching and being coached. Outcomes of coaching for teachers, students, administrators, and parents will be discussed. Emphasis is placed on the practical design of a peer coaching program appropriate to participants’ individual settings and needs.
Target Audience: administrators, professional development coordinators, teachers (K-12), mentors, and mentees
