Let It Begin with Me: Creating Peace-Filled Days for Yourself and Your Students

Paraprofessionals may have the hardest job in the school. They meet and greet just about everyone during the school day. Often they are working with some of our most challenging students, or with kids in large numbers, or when students are frantic for more freedom, such as in our school halls, on our buses, at lunch, or, for our younger students, at recess.

The focus of this workshop is to help paraprofessionals create peace for themselves and the people with whom they work. They will begin by learning to better understand the nature of human behavior, or the internal instructions that all people are born with, as explained by Dr. William Glasser’s Choice Theory©. With increased understanding and appreciation of students’ motivations, the participants will develop more effective strategies to complete their daily responsibilities peacefully.

At the completion of this workshop participants will:

  • Understand the basic genetic instructions that all people are born with and how these instructions show up in the school day;
  • Understand the "why" and "what" of human behavior, from the classroom to the lunch line; and
  • Develop success strategies to achieve:
    • Peaceful learning environments;
    • Peaceful connections with others;
    • Peaceful transitions thru the day; and
    • Peaceful self-care on the job.
