Functional Behavior Assessments

  • clear descriptions of behaviors expected as manifestations of the disability;
  • clear descriptions of causal factors for behaviors that interfere in the student’s functioning in school;
  • an evaluation framework for the appropriateness of program and placement; and
  • data and guidelines for developing:
    • goals and objectives within the IEP to manage and change behaviors;
    • school-based environmental modifications;
    • recommended instructional approaches and/or formats, and teaching materials; and
    • strategies for teaching student-centered self-compensating skills.
