Working Effectively with Our ADD/ADHD Students in the Classroom
Available as a Workshop and/or Consulting by Joyce Butler, Ed.D.
Dr. Butler is an experienced elementary principal and special educator, with career-long experience helping ADD/ADHD students succeed in school.
In this workshop, participants will have an opportunity to:
- Learn the basic characteristics and facts about ADD/ADHD most relevant to the classroom environment;
- Learn specific facts about the Say-Do Theory, how it affects learning, and how it can be applied in the classroom to the benefit of our ADD/ADHD learners;
- Develop a stronger understanding of Attribution Theory, its importance in enabling Effective Effort, and its classroom application to the success of the ADD/ADHD student; and
- Identify six concrete strategies with regard to classroom structure and technique (e.g., creating an organized world) that are effective for the ADD/ADHD student.
Dr. Butler will focus on practical and classroom-friendly techniques that are founded on school-proven, research-based successes. The wonderful thing about learning to help our ADD/ADHD students succeed to a higher degree in our classroom is that everything we learn to help them will also help us to be more effective with all our learners, regardless of their capabilities.
Target Audience: elementary teachers, special educators, paraprofessionals, and administrators
