Recess & Lunchroom Supervision: Improving Behaviors, Avoiding Pitfalls
Available as a Workshop and/or Consulting by Joyce Butler, Ed.D.
Once an elementary teacher and principal, Dr. Joyce Butler knows that a little advance planning goes a long way toward giving kids the happy, safe break they need in their school day. She knows how to help the adults who do lunch and playground duty get themselves organized! The fact is, lunch and recess don’t have to be a source of behavior problems and disputes that disrupt class time later in the day! This workshop will focus on:
- How to establish a desirable climate from the first day;
- How to head off trouble when you see it coming;
- How to encourage responsible behavior;
- How to respond effectively when undesirable behavior erupts; and
- How to make lunch and recess a pleasant and safe experience for kids and adults.
Dr. Butler will focus on how to set standards, how to treat kids with respect and teach them to do the same for each other, and how to use language to avoid pitfalls and navigate conflicts. She will include useful “one-liners” for adults to use to direct behavior in the noisy and fast-moving pace of recess and lunch.
Dr. Butler was an associate of the late behavior legend, Dr. Mike Mezzocchi, and employs his behavior management techniques.
Target Audience: elementary paraprofessionals and administrators
