General Skillful Teaching Techniques for the Paraprofessional

Dr. Joyce Butler can help you as a paraprofessional to master the basic skillful teaching techniques that will help your charges move forward faster in their learning, with fewer distractions and disruptive behaviors. This workshop will include:
- How to get a student’s attention and keep it (these techniques alone will reduce behaviors!);
- How to have materials ready (momentum, attention, and time are all lost unless your materials are ready to go);
- How to give a student a small recuperative learning break if you see s/he is shutting down on you (and then, all importantly, how to get them back on task); and
- How to check that your student is getting what you’re teaching–because we all know that even when a student is nodding knowingly, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are getting what you’re giving!
