Behavior Management for Children with Autism (2 years – 6th grade)

One of the challenges of working with children with autism is understanding their behaviors, and then learning how to help them make more positive behavior choices. The increased success with children with autism over recent years has taught practitioners that positive results can be obtained when we use research-based strategies and best practices in teaching these children appropriate behaviors. This workshop will include:

  • Overview of behavioral deficits and excesses;
  • Neurological anomalies that may contribute to behavioral deficits and excesses;
  • Identifying the “purpose of behavior”–conducting a brief “functional analysis of behavior”; and
  • Developing positive behavioral support plans.
